David Robert Joseph Beckham was born May 2nd, 1975, in Leytonstone, England. As a student in Essex, Beckham won the Bobby Charlton Soccer Skills Award at the age of 11, making his football talent evident at an early age.

David Beckham is one of England's true ambassadors for the game of football. Renowned for his spectacular goals and his celebrity lifestyle, he is an idol and hero to many. Now he plays football with Real Madrid.
Marcus Trescothick was born December 25th, 1975, in Keynsham, Somerset. He is regarded as the best English cricketer. He played with two teams Somerset, England as left hand batsman and his bowling style is righ arm medium.


Michael Owen was born on 14th December 1979 in Chester, Michael has become one of the best footballer's in the world. He played with Liverpool Football Club. Todoay, he plays football in Spain with Real Madrid as Beckham.

Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on 7th February 1812 in Portsmouth, England.  He was one of the a greatest writers of all time, bringing us some of his well known books which  included Great Expectations, David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and The Pickwick Papers.  He also created many character's, portrayed many events that have brought enjoyment to many.  Dickens understood how the poor lived and knew the terrible conditions they  worked in, which many of his novels are based on.

Bram (Abraham) Stoker was born November 8, 1847 in Dublin, Ireland. The name of his most famous book was Dracula.

  Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on July 31st, 1965 in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire, England. She is a very famous English writer because she wrote Harry Potter.
By the summer of 2000, Ms. Rowling has earned, reportedly, over $400 million dollars for her first three Harry Potter books, which have been printed in 35 languages, and sold over 30 million copies.

Sir Alexander Fleming (born August 6, 1881 Scotland - died March 11, 1955) is famous for discovering the penicillin and he recived a Nobel prize..


Alexander Graham Bell (March 3, 1847, Edinburgh, Scotland - August 2, 1922, Baddek, Nova Scotia) invented the telephone (with Thomas Watson) in 1876. Bell also improved Thomas Edison's phonograph. Bell invented the multiple telegraph (1875), the hydroairplane, the photo-sensitive selenium cell (the photophone, a wireless phone, developed with Sumner Tainter), and new techniques for teaching the deaf to speak. In 1882, Bell and his father-in-law, Gardiner Hubbard, bought and re-organized the journal "Science." Bell, Hubbard and others founded the National Geographic Society in 1888; Bell was the President of the National Geographic Society from 1898 to 1903.
Sir Humphry Davy
Light BulbSir Humphry Davy (1778-1829) was an English scientist who invented the first electric light in 1800. He experimented with electricity and invented an electric battery.
Davy also invented a miner's safety helmet and a process to desalinate sea water. Davy discovered the elements boron, sodium, aluminum (whose name he later changed to aluminium), and potassium.


Stephen Perry made the first rubber band  in 1845 in the manufacturing company Messers Perry and Co., in London, England. This rubber band was made of vulcanized rubber. Perry invented the rubber band to hold papers or envelopes together.

Sir Robert Alexander Watson-Watt, Scotish physicist  (April 13, 1892-December 5, 1973). He invented in 1935 the first practical radar system. His invention eventually helped the allies win World War 2 against the Germans. NPG P490(83)
Radar is short for RAdio Detection And Ranging. He developed radar to help track storms in order to keep aircraft safe.   Radar is used to locate distant objects by sending out radio waves and analyzing the echos that return. Radar can determine where a distant object is, how big it is, what shape it has, how fast it's moving and in which direction it's going. Radar is now used to watch developing weather patterns, to monitor air traffic, to track ships at sea, and to detect missiles.



Sir Richard Francis Burton
(1821-1890) was an English explorer, linguist, author, and soldier. He was the first European to see many Muslim cities and Lake Tanganyika; he wrote voluminously about his trips.


Allan Cunningham (1791 - 1839) was an English explorer and botanical collector. Cunningham's explorations included Brazil (from 1814 to 1816), eastern Australia (1816 - 1839), and New Zealand (1826) .

William Dampier (1651 or 1652-1715) was a British buccaneer (pirate), explorer and map-maker. As a teenager, he sailed to the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Dampier sailed to Australia, New Guinea, southeast Asia, and the South Seas, charting the coastlines, rivers, and currents for the British Admiralty (1699-1700). He also kept a detailed journal, noting native cultures, the first noted typhoon, and other discoveries made during his voyages. He discovered and named New Britain (near New Guinuea). His book, A New Voyage Round the World, was published in 1697, and quickly became very popular.


Sir Francis Drake (1545-1596) was a British explorer, slave-trader, privateer (a pirate working for a government) in the service of England, mayor of Plymouth, England, and naval officer (he was an Admiral). Drake led the second expedition to sail around the world in a voyage lasting from 1577 to 1580.


Henry Hudson (1565-1611) was an English explorer and navigator who explored parts of the Arctic Ocean and northeastern North America. The Hudson River, Hudson Strait, and Hudson Bay are named for Hudson.

Kingsley, MaryMary Henrietta Kingsley (1862-1900) was a British explorer who made two pioneering trips to West and Central Africa. She was the first European to enter remote parts of Gabon.


John Rae (1813-1893) was a Scottish explorer, surveyor, and surgeon who explored the Canadian Arctic.  He also showed that King William Land was an island.  During his Arctic expeditions, the hearty Rae walked over 23,000 miles (37000 km).

Sir Walter Raleigh (1554-1618) was a British explorer, poet, historian, and soldier. Raleigh led expeditions to both North America and South America; he was trying to found new settlements, find gold, and increase trade with the New World. In 1585, Raleigh sent colonists to the east coast of North America; Raleigh later named that area Virginia, in honour of Elizabeth, the Virgin Queen. He is often credited with bringing tobacco and potatoes from the New World to Britain, but they were already known there. Raleigh was later executed by King James I for treason.Ross

Sir James Clark Ross (1800 - 1862) was a British explorer and naval officer who went on missions to both the Arctic and the continent of Antarctica, doing magnetic surveys.

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1872-1922) was a British explorer (born in Ireland) and member of the Royal Naval Reserve. Shackleton was involved in many expeditions attempting to reach the South Pole.


James Weddell (1787 -1834) was an English explorer, naturalist, geographer, and sealer who sailed on three expeditions to the Antarctic (in the years 1820-21, 1821-22 and 1822-23). Weddell discovered the Weddell Sea (near the South Pole) and the Weddell Seal Leptonychofes weddelli in 1823. Captain Weddell also set an 80-year record for the farthest southern latitude reached (74°15'S, set February 20, 1823). Weddell wrote of his adventures in the book, "A Voyage Towards the South Pole in the Years 1822-24" (published in 1825). Weddell died in poverty at the age of 47.
